Rhodes Ranch
20 Rhodes Ranch Parkway
702-740-4114
A round at Rhodes Ranch is all about fun. This course is aptly described
as player friendly, with its generally forgiving fairways. Of course,
the challenging par-3s, what designer Ted Robinson calls the best he’s
ever designed, might make or break your ego for the day. So next time
you are in Vegas, give Rhodes Ranch a run. Discover a satisfying day
in the desert. Happy Trails and we’ll see you in the clubhouse.
Angel
Park Golf Club
100 South Rampart Boulevard
(888) 629-3929
Angel Park Golf Club is the most complete
golfing facility in Nevada. The Palm and Mountain Courses offer 36 holes
of championship golf designed by the legendary Arnold Palmer. Cloud
Nine is a uniquely designed course which incorporates playing concepts
of 12 of the world's most challenging par-3s. The world's finest 18-hole
Putting Course features bunkers and water hazards that actually come
into play. Both the Cloud Nine and the 18-hole Putting Course are lighted
for night play.
The
Badlands
9119 Alta Drive
877-378-6033
The Badlands stretches to 7,000 + yards and is a Johnny
Miller Signature Design with consultation by Chi Chi Rodriguez. The
unique 27 hole layout meshes with the natural terrain of the mountains
preserving the deserts landscape, while unitizing beautiful washes,
arroyos, gorges and canyons. The Badlands also offers panoramic views
of the spectacular Vegas skyline. The Desperado and Diablo Nines feature
desert target golf at its finest while the Outlaw Nine is much more
forgiving.
Las
Vegas National Golf Club
1911 East Desert Inn Road
877-378-6033
Formerly known as the Sahara Country
Club, this course was one of the host courses of the Las Vegas PGA Invitational
from 1994-1996. The Las Vegas National is generally the most traditional
design of all the courses in Las Vegas. Winding throughout historic
homes, it plays to 6,815 yards and is a challenging course due to its
age and maturity. It encompasses historic and modern Vegas.

The City
Illusion
is everywhere in Las Vegas. A 50-story Eiffel Tower looms over the Strip,
gondoliers "o sole mio" their way down an ersatz Grand Canal,
and acres of neon turn night into multicolored day. Gamblers defy reason
(and the considerable odds against winning) in their attempts to seduce
the goddess of chance, while onstage extravaganzas manipulate reality
with mind-bending special effects. Even a meal can be an adventure, whether
at an over-the-top, all-you-can-eat buffet or in a house of haute cuisine
that you wouldn't expect to find in the Nevada desert. Head out of town
and you'll come across otherworldly landscapes that nature has etched
over the years. Yes, a trip to
Las Vegas offers a chance to surrender to fantasy -- and you'll have the
time of your life doing it. The Las Vegas of the Strip and downtown is
Siegfried & Roy, the Rockettes, and Cirque du Soleil. It's cards,
dice, roulette wheels, and slots. It's harried keno runners and leggy
cocktail waitresses, grizzled pit bosses and nervous break-in dealers.
It's cab and limo drivers, valet attendants, and bellmen. Las Vegas is
showgirls with smiles as white as spotlights and head wear as big and
bright as fireworks. It's a place where thousands of people earn their
living counting billions in chips, change, bills, checks, and markers.
Gimmicks, glitz, and gigawatts of electrical power are what keep Las Vegas
humming day and night, not to mention the more than
36 million casino-bound visitors who arrive every year and bed down in
some of the world's largest, showiest hotels (the city has 18 of the 21
biggest in the world). Vegas Vic and Vicky, the 50-ft-tall ambassadors
of Glitter Gulch, are forever duded up in high western style to give gamblers
a flashy welcome. Locals aren't spinning yarns when they say you can hear
the buzz of Las Vegas neon in the quiet of the Mojave Desert, as far as
10 mi beyond the city limits. The largest city in Nevada, Las Vegas is
2,030 ft above sea level. It's one of the most remote large cities in
the country: the nearest major population center to the west is Barstow,
California, 2½ hours away; St. George, Utah, is two hours to the
east. Through the years Las Vegas has wrested the political and economic
power of Nevada away from Reno, 448 mi to the northwest, the city where
legalized gambling first became popular and where the early casinos were
built. Las Vegas is surrounded by the Mojave Desert, and Las Vegas Valley
is flanked by mountain ranges. Among them are the Spring Mountains, including
Mount Charleston (11,918 ft), which has downhill skiing, and Red Rock
Canyon, characterized by stunning Southwest sandstone. The
Las Vegas Wash drains the valley to the southeast into Lake Mead and the
Colorado River system.
Average high temperatures in Las Vegas rise to 105°F in July and August;
lows drop to 30°F in January and February. The heat is sauna like
throughout the summer, except during electrical storms that can dump an
inch of rain an hour and cause dangerous flash floods. The summer blaze
often makes it very uncomfortable to be outside for any length of time.
Winters can be surprisingly chilly during the day and especially cold
after the sun goes down. But in September and October and April and May
it doesn't get any better. Despite the weather, through the years Las
Vegas has carved a secure niche for itself as a destination for national
and international tourists, a winter sojourn for snowbirds from the north;
a weekend getaway for gamblers and families from California, Arizona,
and Utah; and convention central. Las Vegas has expanded at a ferocious
pace for the past 10 years, during which more than 65,000 hotel rooms
have been added and more than a half million people have moved to the
area, many of them fleeing California. And why not? Though inching up,
room rates are lower than in any other major U.S. city. There are lavish
gourmet spots, but the inexpensive restaurants and buffet dining here
can be cheaper than preparing a meal at home. Entertainment is abundant
and reasonably priced. Las Vegas is possibly the easiest place in the
world to receive freebies -- the ubiquitous "comps." And best
of all, gambling promotions such as coupons, slot clubs, paycheck bonuses,
and drawings provide a fighting chance to win in the casino. In the back
of everyone's mind is the idea that a trip to Las Vegas can be free or
even a money-making vacation. That kind of thinking keeps the corporations
smiling as they add a few more finishing touches to their $2-billion hotels.
Attractions
Old
Las Vegas Mormon Fort State Historic Park
500 E. Washington Ave
(702) 486-3511
In 1855, the first permanent non-native settlers to the Las Vegas valley
were Mormon missionaries. They built an adobe fort which now serves as
a visitor center. These settlers lived here by farming the area using
diverted water from a nearby creek. This park is currently under development
to include more historic interpretations and re-created features. The
park is open all year.

Lied Discovery Children's Museum
833 Las Vegas Boulevard North
Las Vegas, NV 89101

The Lied Discovery Children's Museum is the largest non-profit, educational
and cultural institution in the metropolitan Las Vegas area serving children

in the arts, sciences, and humanities, and since opening in September
1990, more than 1,000,000 children and adults have visited the Museum.
With more than 100 hands-on exhibits in 25,000 square feet, the Museum
is one of the largest children's museums in the United States.

and wonderful museum located right on the Las Vegas Strip, just 1/2 block
north of Circus Circus Hotel at 2780 Las Vegas Blvd. South.
Hoover Dam
The dam is located 30 miles southeast of Las Vegas on US Highway 93 at
the Nevada-Arizona border
Hoover Dam, one of mans greatest architectural achievements and one of
the most popular landmarks visited by Las Vegas visitors. Still in operation
since the 30's supplying electrical power to Nevada, Arizona and California,
it is truly a wonder to see. Visitors can actually go into the depths
of the dam and tour the inner workings. Or you can peer over the edge
of the nearly 800 foot drop while standing in two time zones at once!
A nearby museum shows movies and artifacts involving it's creation. The
beautiful new visitors center, at the edge of the dam, opened in September
95 and ironically enough cost much more to build than the dam itself did
60 years ago.
Las
Vegas Zoo
1775 N. Rancho Drive
Las Vegas, NV 89106
(702) 647-4685

shady 3-acre park is located just 15 minutes northwest of the Las Vegas
Strip. The zoo exhibits over 150 species of plants and animals (for more
information click here). As the only zoo in Las Vegas and the only year-round
zoo in Nevada, we work hard to fulfill our mission to educate and entertain
the public by displaying a variety of plants and animals.

Buccaneer Bay
3300 Las Vegas Blvd. S.
Las Vegas, Nevada 89109
(702) 894-7111
Every
90 minutes each evening, cannon and musket fire are exchanged in a dramatic
pyrotechnic battle between the pirate ship Hispaniola and the British
frigate H.M.S. Britannia in the middle of Buccaneer Bay. Waves crash against
the pier, seagulls chatter and pirates call to one another as they unload
the booty from their ship, the Hispañiola. Suddenly, the HMS Britannia
steals around the corner at Skull Point, and British naval officers challenge
the pirates to surrender their valuables and their vessel. The pirates
refuse and proudly stand guard to defend their ship.
